1,Calcium-dependent dynamics of cadherin interactions at cell-cell junctions
(PNAS vol. 108 No.24)
The authors made direct visualization and quantification of spatiotemporal dynamics of N-cadherin interactions across intercellular junctions in living cells by using a genetically encodable FRET reporter system. Their results revealed that interaction between cadherins is dependent on calcium. they clearly show the conclusion like title wrote: cadherins function as cell-cell junction rapidly convey dynamic information about the extracellular environment.
2, Reduction-oxidation poise regulates the sign of phototaxis in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
(PNAS vol. 108 No.27)
I think perhaps the author proposed a new point that ROS is signal of phototaxis inside of plankton cells. Before, ROS has been considered as toxin generated from algae. However, here, these results showed that ROS regulates the phototaxis as one signal. This new finding let us expand our knowledge. That could explain why their results published on journal of PNAS
